Celebrating the Success of "Hebridean Light" at Talla Na Mara, Isle of Harris

I am thrilled to share the incredible success of my recent exhibition, "Hebridean Light," which was on display at the beautiful Talla Na Mara on the Isle of Harris throughout the month of August. From the 1st to the 30th, the exhibition not only showcased my deep love for the unique landscapes and light of the Hebrides but also became a gathering point for art lovers and enthusiasts from all around the world.

A Warm Reception and Enthusiastic Appreciation

I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming appreciation that "Hebridean Light" received. It was heartening to witness how my interpretation of the island's unique light resonated with so many people. The exhibition attracted a diverse audience, from local residents to tourists who had traveled from various corners of the globe to experience the natural beauty of Harris.

One of the highlights of the exhibition was the number of fellow artists who visited, many of whom left inspiring and encouraging comments. Their insights and feedback were invaluable, and it was an honor to have them see and appreciate my work. The visitors' book is now filled with lovely messages, each one reflecting the joy and inspiration they felt while viewing the paintings. I can't express how much these words mean to me—they are a true testament to the connection that art can create between people, no matter where they come from.

A Truly Remarkable Venue

Talla Na Mara provided the perfect backdrop for my paintings. Nestled on the west coast of the Isle of Harris, this modern arts and entertainment venue boasts breath-taking views of the Nisabost Beach. The venue's large windows allowed the ever-changing Hebridean light to pour in, complementing the theme of my work and creating a dynamic interaction between the natural environment and the art on display.

The staff at Talla Na Mara were nothing short of amazing. Their warmth, professionalism, and genuine passion for the arts made the entire experience even more special. From the moment the exhibition was set up to the final day, they ensured everything ran smoothly. The cafe was excellent too.

Strong Sales and Support from Art Collectors

The exhibition also saw strong sales, with several pieces finding new homes both locally and internationally. It's incredibly fulfilling to know that my paintings will continue to evoke the spirit of the Hebrides in various parts of the world. The support from collectors, both new and returning, was truly humbling. Each sale not only validates my artistic journey but also encourages me to keep exploring and sharing the beauty of these islands through my work.

The Magic of Harris

Harris itself, with its stunning landscapes, vibrant community, and welcoming spirit, played a significant role in the exhibition's success. The island continues to captivate visitors from all over the world, many of whom are drawn to its unspoiled beauty and the unique light that inspired "Hebridean Light." Whether they were visiting the island for the first time or returning to a beloved destination, many expressed how my paintings captured the essence of what makes Harris so special.

Looking Ahead

As I reflect on the success of "Hebridean Light," I am filled with gratitude—for the venue, the visitors, the supportive staff, and the island itself. For those who were unable to visit the exhibition in person, selected works are still available for viewing and purchase (message me on socials) on my website, sarahandersonartist.com.

Thank you to everyone who made this exhibition such a resounding success. Your support, encouragement, and enthusiasm mean the world to me. I look forward to sharing more of my work with you in the future and continuing to explore the amazing landscapes of Scotland and beyond.

Warmest regards,
Sarah

Hebridean Light: A Journey Through the Isle of Harris

I am delighted to announce my latest exhibition, "Hebridean Light," which will be on display at the Talla Na Mara in the Isle of Harris from the 1st to the 30th of August. This exhibition is a heartfelt exploration of the ethereal beauty and ever-changing light of the Hebrides, a place that has profoundly influenced my artistic journey.

Capturing the Essence of the Hebrides

The Hebrides, with their rugged landscapes, pristine beaches, and dramatic skies, have long been a source of inspiration for artists. In "Hebridean Light," I have sought to capture the unique atmosphere of this remote archipelago, focusing on how the light interacts with the land and sea. From the soft glow of dawn over Luskentyre Beach to the vibrant sunsets that set the skies ablaze, each painting in this collection reflects a moment in time that feels both fleeting and eternal.

The Venue: Talla Na Mara

There couldn’t be a more fitting venue for this exhibition than Talla Na Mara, which translates to "Centre by the Sea." Nestled on the west coast of Harris, this cultural and arts centre offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, making it an ideal location to immerse yourself in the artwork. The building’s modern architecture blends seamlessly with the natural environment, providing a tranquil setting to experience the Hebrides’ breathtaking light in both the art and the surrounding landscape.

A Sneak Peek at the Collection

For those who are curious to see what’s in store, the "Available Work" section of my website features a preview of the paintings that will be exhibited. The collection includes a variety of sizes and formats, each one capturing a different facet of the Hebridean experience. Whether it's the soft pastels of a misty morning or the bold, dramatic hues of a storm rolling in, each piece invites the viewer to pause and appreciate the subtle beauty of these islands.

Experience the Exhibition

I warmly invite you to visit the exhibition at Talla Na Mara, where you can experience the beauty of the Hebrides through my eyes. Each painting is an invitation to see the world in a new light, to slow down and appreciate the quiet moments that often go unnoticed.

For those unable to make the journey to the Isle of Harris, I will be sharing highlights and stories behind the artworks on my website and social media channels throughout the month.

I hope "Hebridean Light" resonates with you as much as it does with me, and I look forward to sharing this very personal collection with you.

Converge – a masterly, moody, creative collaboration by four Scottish landscape artists

“With an element of Van Gogh’s impressionistic ‘Pine Trees against an Evening Sky,’ the delicate patterning and halo of gold in Glentress Forest Light draws the viewer into the scene as the eye follows the winding path through the winter trees bathed in dappled sunlight.”

“With the dark, thundery clouds, Approaching Rain, Scarista is mesmerising with its expanse of inky blueness, a glimmer of sun shining on the beach where the sand meets the lapping waves and the sea touches the sky. This is akin to a Rothko-esque abstract in its bold geometric blocks of colour: the slither of turquoise water is renowned on this west coast and on summer days the white sand beaches evoke a tropical island.”

“Scotland meets the Caribbean in The Colours of Harris in a more representative scene of the striated layers of sand, sea with flecks of surf, distant hills and flurry of clouds. The stylised structure of the composition is stunning with an expressive use of shape, light and movement.”

The Converge exhiition has shut its doors. Its been a busy, emotional, successful and tiring week. I would like to thank all the people who visited, blethered, fedback and bought my artwork. The response has been amazing and to top it all the review from the Smart Leisure Guide by Vivian Devlin is really great.

Scottish Land and Sea- Two Perspectives exhibition @Dundas Street Gallery Edinburgh

SLAS2P Poster final.jpg

It’s finally here! After nearly a year of planning (basically booking the space, painting regularly and hoping lockdown will be a thing of the past) we will be opening our doors tomorrow at 10am for the two person exhibition titled ‘Scottish Land and Sea- two perspectives’. Gill Knight and I are Edinburgh based artists and first time we are hosting a show on our own. The whole day was taken up by packing, transporting and hanging nearly 60 paintings in total. The Dundas street gallery is a lovely space located below the Fine Art Society. Quite by coincidence, I notice that two of my inspirational artists are exhibiting nearby! Joan Eardley at the Fine Art Society and Victoria Crowe at the Scottish Gallery. If you are in Edinburgh over the next week, do drop in and say hello. The details of the new work that I will be exhibiting can be found here.

Art and life in times of COVID-19

The last few months have been surreal. The lockdown has been challenging for all. I am lucky to have studio at home and so have been busy. My kids have been very self sufficient and taken to home schooling very well.

One simple idea has helped all artists including me in these challenging times. Set up by artist Matthew Burrows . The Artist Support Pledge is a simple concept. Artists post images of their work, on Instagram which they are willing to sell for no more than £200 each (not including shipping). Anyone can buy the work. Every time an artist reaches £1000 of sales, they pledge to spend £200 on another artist/s work.

The #ArtistSupportPledge movement has certainly has helped me enthused in my painting; the feedback and sales has been uplifting- thank you to all who liked my posts and bought my paintings.

I post paintings as part of the #artistsupportpledge on my Instagram feed regularly. I am also working on larger pieces for various gallery shows opening in the next 12 months. Watch this space!

Due to the support I have received, I am also filling up the space in my walls with amazing pieces from other amazing artists like Kirsty Withers, Ellis O’Connor and Carina Prigmore.

We may be entering final weeks of strict lockdown, I will view these few months with a mixture of emotions. But my art has helped me look positively to the future.

I have stuck to what Austin Kleon has said in his books- Stick Around, Show your work and Keep your tools tidy and your materials messy!
